About

At the heart of Flid is a desire to impact the fundamental attitudes and perspectives of our relationship with clothing – along the way placing values of quality, care and longevity equal to those of aesthetics, design and personal expression.

Garments created to last and be cared for

Flid is a different kind of fashion brand. Founded in 2020 with a vision of inspiring more people to create a sustainable, conscious, and lasting wardrobe, Flid offers the option of sewing the garments yourself or purchasing unique pieces on a made to order basis. Flid designs are tailored to those who value both style and sustainability, bringing a more fashion oriented focus into the world of home crafts, and a slow, low impact alternative to those wishing to purchase a finished garment.

My hope is that Flid can be a partner on your way to mastery and freedom within the overwhelming world of clothing. Empowering you to create conscious and slow fashion that feels elevated, beautiful and cherishable, with your own two hands. I firmly believe anyone can learn how to sew, and in doing so, you open up a world of creative possibilities within personalised fashion and style, where previously inaccessible designs, features and qualities are suddenly available at your fingertips – an approach I like to think of as a little piece of everyday couture. Handmade garments of the most meticulous and loving approach, uniquely you and one of a kind – created for your everyday life and happenings, by yourself.

Flid creates and sells fashion as do-it-yourself sewing patterns for you to create at home, and made-to-order garments produced by appointment only.

Sewing Patterns

All Flid designs are available as downloadable PDF sewing patterns, so that anyone can create them at home. All you need is a sewing machine, the appropriate materials and a way to print the pattern. Check out Guides for instructions on how to use a digital pattern.

Made-to-order

Choose from any one of the garments and I’ll sew it after your requests with a fabric of your choice from a curated selection. You’ll experience being involved in the process of creating your own piece of couture. Personal, meticulous and sustainable fashion made to last, designed and produced locally in Oslo.

Using this approach, we contribute to a personal production process where clothing is always manufactured on a 1-to-1 demand basis – reducing waste, unsold inventory and carbon emissions from the demanding manufacturing, supply chain and shipping processes of the global fashion industry. We also experience a greater personal connection between ourselves, what we’re wearing and how it is created.

Meticulousness

Creating with care, attention to detail, focus and patience is the Flid ethos – and the literal meaning of the brand name. Promoting meticulousness as a beneficial, attractive and awarding value when sewing, designing and being, is an important part of this project, and something I hope will bring greater respect and love to each garment produced.

Awareness

Fashion and clothes are fun, and shouldn’t be imbued in guilt. Still, with the current impact the fashion industry is having on our environment, we need start consuming less and more consciously. Awareness of our own habits, attitudes and possibilities when it comes to clothing consumption is the first step. We need millions to be better, not a few people to be perfect.

Longevity

Loved clothes last longer and are better looked after. When sewing your own garment, or participating in the creation of your own piece of couture, you form a closer bond to it as a creative and artisanal manifestation that deserves respect. You’ll also understand its anatomy better, helping you mend, fix and care for it over time, ensuring it can be of service and bring you joy for as long as possible.

Beauty

Feeling good about oneself, beautiful, comfortable and proud of the way you show up to the world is so important in order to be your best version. Beauty takes many forms and manifestations. Romantic details, structured fits, dreamy silhouettes and casual simplicity are some of my personal go-to’s. Empowering you to embrace and create your own feeling of beauty is a core reason for Flid’s existence.

Kindness

The world of fashion, artisanship and sewing can oftentimes feel scary, closed off and impermeable. However, the sharing of knowledge, inspiration, learnings and innovations is key to include more people in a new and better way of consuming and producing clothes. Kindness, openness and a willingness to share with each other is paramount in order to build a strong community of artisanal interest and knowledge.

My name is Oda, and I make these designs and run Flid. I’ve been a nerd about artisanship my whole life, fascinated particularly by things like sewing, knitting, weaving and so on. When I got serious about sewing several years ago, my goal was to create the clothing I was dreaming of wearing myself – usually too exclusive or expensive for me to just go out and purchase. Beautiful fashion with feminine shapes, intricate details and quality fabrics. I realised I could bring these visions to life from home, with a needle, thread, patience and a vision, and got hooked on the amazing feeling and satisfaction that came along with this feeling of mastery and possibilities. Now it’s my great joy to share this passion through patterns, made-to-orders and sewing books.
